Donna King | Singer Songwriter & Performer
Donna King is an aspiring, young R&B and Soul singer with a vibrancy and passion for music that is unparalleled for someone so young.
Born in Toronto, Ontario, to Jamaican parents, her childhood was enveloped in music as her father, who is an accomplished country singer/songwriter and musician, inspired her to develop her unique and powerful voice.
This songstress is no stranger to the stage. At just 13 years old, she entered a local talent contest called “YTV vocal spotlight” in Toronto. This was her first journey into the public eye. She successfully made it to the semi-finals and was one of the emerging stars of the show.
At the age of 16, Donna was chosen to perform at the internationally known “Show Time at the Apollo” in Harlem, New York. She wowed the audience at the amateur night contest performing “Get Here” by Oleta Adams.
Her undeniable determination to perfect her musical craft brought her to the reality television competition “Canadian Idol.” Although she wasn’t selected, the experience provided her the insight to grow as an artist.
In 2004 she travelled to the U.S again for the “New York International Music Festival” (NYIMF) where she won Best International Artist and Best R&B Female Artist. She also competed in the Las Vegas portion of NYIMF. Executive Director Frankie Munoz said, “Donna King is poised for major success. She is a passionate and highly talented artist.”
Donna pulls her motivation, strength and style from R&B and Soul divas like Mary J. Blige, Aaliyah, Faith Evans and Missy Elliot to name a few.
Currently working on her first EP, her new single “Take Control” positions her as a breakthrough artist.
